This was, overall a very challenging project and I really enjoyed it! I built a website on Gandhi, and attempted to put his arguments about how to live life onto the web, as well as give some background information and other content. With websites, there is a nearly infinite variety of content you can add, so I was limited by time and I plan on working on this even after I turn it in, since the subject is still interesting to me.
I ended up narrowing the content down to some summaries of his ideas, background on India, Hinduism and Gandhi's life, a quote database sorted by topic, vegetarian recipes, photographs, magazine covers, a link section and a forum. This forum has no posts except for my own and is sort of pointless, but it allows some visitor interaction which is hugely important for websites.
The most difficult part, surprisingly, was the background information on Hinduism. I knew very little about it and I read quite a bit, but I am still not sure if what I wrote is a good description of the religion. I wasn't able to talk to a Hindu to see what the important aspects really are, so maybe the stuff I wrote about is irrelevant. It was really hard condensing a completely foreign religion into a few paragraphs!
I was surprised how few websites are available on Gandhi! The ones I found were generally not top quality and contained dead links and other problems. This was surprising to me since there are so many good websites that people put tons of effort into on practically everything (and yes, I run a few very random ones). It is a little depressing how much more quality content one can find searching for Paris Hilton than Gandhi.
I really enjoyed working on this project even though it was more challenging that I anticipated. It was completely new from the aspect of making a website on something relevant and deep, and also because I have never done a school project or argument as a website before. It really forced me to consider more the audience I was aiming for and what content would interest that audience.
